Favorite Game Fish
"My favorite game fish is steelhead. In fresh water they are the most prized on the west coast. The first run is pretty much all theirs. They pretty much do whatever they want unless you use some heavy heavy tackle. I think people tend to land 1 out of every 3 steelhead they hook. They used to be called the fish of a thousand casts, but if you study the guides and learn from them you can catch alot of steelhead. They are good eating, kind of a cross between a salmon and a trout, they're a rainbow trout but after spending some time in the ocean they kinda taste in-between a salmon and a rainbow trout. They're called steelhead cause there's actually some metal in their head, cause they eat alot of crabs that have alot of natural iron in their shells. Just kidding, actually its because they live in the blue ocean and to camoflouge themselves they adapt to that blue color. When they come out of the ocean theyre like a steel blue on top." -Justan Angler

Duck Valley Indian Reservation (ID) - 07/01/2009
DUCK VALLEY INDIAN RESERVATION
Fishing report as of 7/1/09
Fishing at the three reservoirs has been pretty good. Anglers reported catching at least one fish per hour up to3 fish per hour. Reports are that Sheep Creek Specials and Stayner Ducktails are the hot flies. Mountain View is fishing the best currently with people catching the most fish there. Fish at Billy Shaw are averaging the largest at 16 but some 20 to 21 inch trout also being recorded. Anglers complemented the hard fighting fish at Billy Shaw as well. Sheep Creek had lower catch rates but anglers still reported about 1 to 1.5 fish per hour.
The weeds are definitely becoming fully grown. These weed patches can make fishing more challenging. Fish deeper areas near the dams to stay out of the weeds.
If you catch yellow perch, please do not release them back into the water.

My Favorite River
Lockwood Creek, a tributary of Piru Creek is one of the finest native trout fisheries in So. Calif. I hope you add it to your list of Calif. streams; many folks fish it and would submit comments. Check out this photo
