Current Fishing Reports in California
Napa River (CA) 02/05/2012 ~ Byron
Walked the Eco Preserve with the fly rod before work today to work on my small stream casting/streamer fishing. Stuck a few 4-6" salmon fry on a black BH Wooly Bugger.
What was disappointing was that I saw pretty much the same thing as you CNH, nada. No disturbed gravel, no redds, no carcasses. And all the fry I saw were from last year's spawn. Still a pretty way to spend your morning.
Hopefully we get some spawners moving up soon......more

Napa River (CA) 01/31/2012 ~ CNH
@Byron: Glad to hear that you saw something moving up. I walked the usual spots on Sunday and didn't see anything - no fish moving, no redds, no carcasses, nada. Hopefully the salmon are still moving up because the river looked pretty undisturbed. It a testament to how dry the valley was prior to the rain - 5 inches in January would usually have it running high and muddy for a week and a half. The level was back down and it is running gin clear in the shallows and steelhead green in he pools when I was there.
Not in Napa, but I ended up in Marin County later that afternoon and saw some Coho moving up into Lagunitas Creek. Pretty cool sight to see.
