Fishing Reports for Big Chico Creeklogin to add a report
don't take the salmons or eggs. You will get sued. There is a law passed to protect them. Mostly this spring. They came back A LOT in the upper parks.
Fishig at Big CHICO Creek is fun! use worms, chicken livers or fried-eggs mix with salt, the fish LOVES IT! recommended baits are worms for all bass or trouts. Fried eggs recommended for other fishes. THERE IS MORE FISH! that will bite worms! catfish (Channel or hammer) loves chicken livers but not found much in this creak. found mostly in the lower park area. But the rangers says that fishing is banned in every creak or stream in California? is it true?
What baits/lures do you guys use?
the trout fishing below bearhole is great right now. a friend and i landed 8-9 rainbows last night anywhere from 9 to 13 inches in just a couple hours.
ive seen fish there in upper park pools. im interested in the smallmouth bass. what were u using and where? thanks
The fish in the upper park (at least around bear hole and above) are actually spring run chinook salmon.
I went to college at Chico State from '80 through '85.
I know that was a while ago, but I remember getting excited when seeing those big fish in upper park. On closer inspection, they turned out to be Squawfish, a native fish that is not a particularly sporting fish to catch, and not good eating, either.

anyone out there with info on fishing the creek in upper park. Saw some great pools with fairly large fish and was wondering if fly fishing is allowed. Thx.
