Piru was great yesterday. Killing it with Black Roostertails. Just go down past the first streem crossing. Tons of 6"-9" and a few 12" Enjoy!

I'll be up there tomorrow. I always head down stream and fish my way back up. Think I'll bring a Mr. Clean Magic eraser and see if I can get some of the spray paint off the rocks... =/

went fishing here yesterday, i have caught thousands of trout. rainbows, browns, cutthroat, brookies, and goldens. got a ten pounder at grant lake in the june loop this summer. but the beautiful pink cheek and stripe, deep green back three and a half pound rainbow was possibly the best fight i have ever had with a trout. those fish can pull... even the 12-15 inchers pull drag on light tackle. ended up with 11 fish total and maybe frostbight on the fingers. long hike back up to the truck...

I hiked the whole length to Piru about 4 weeks ago and the fishing was fine we spent most of the time hiking since its so dam far and 2 days is not enough time to fish and enjoy your self when you have a dead line to get picked up by and not to add this was the weekend the thunder storms came threw we where out there in it. lots of bear back there and coyotes its beautiful but ruff country I landed 2 trout with 2 cast and let them go and went back to hiking. Next year when I do it im going to give me self 4-5 days more time to fish.

But yeah like every one else the fishing is always bad there...... lol

Well, you hiked farther than I did. You went all the way to Piru! Maybe one day those little trout will show up again. I have really good memories of Piru. I hope to make that hike again one day.

Here's my report on Piru from 5 years ago:

"When I fished Piru many years ago I remember having to hike back in there quite a distance (maybe 4 miles). At some magical point, there were a ton of brave and hungry little trout. It was pretty fun. My buddy and I were using spinners."

I guess it hasn't changed much! Even though those trout were "mino" sized, it was really fun seeing them in there thick.

dave it is not very promising there anywhere, the place has been used and abused beyond fish able, you may catch a mino of a trout...but it is not really considered a fishery anymore..

Hi all, I am going to Frenchman's Flat this Sunday, I fished there about 2 years ago, until I heard they stopped stocking it. I am wondering though if I hike south downstream a couple of miles from the parking lot if there are trout? I'm taking my nephews so I am wondering if we should pack in fishing poles? Thanks!

I see I usually never get picked up or dropped off. I do it with a couple of my buds and we take two cars one for the trail head and the other for the destination. I will have to arrange a pickup or something.

Where do you park your car at Lake Piru? Last time I tried this trip they tried to charge me 38 bucks a night just to park at the end of Piru Creek. Unless you are willing to pay Piru Lake some big bucks you can't do that trip anymore.
