I think we are the only two on this site...

James 05/13/2008 01:25:03 GMT
Its a limited scope but at leat a response.

ontherise 05/12/2008 15:51:30 GMT
thanks james...

James 05/12/2008 15:27:13 GMT
I had a buddy who has been. Never gone myself. He liked it but went mostly to off road. Haven't heard much else.

ontherise 05/12/2008 09:12:24 GMT
Anybody ever camp in Lockwood?

ontherise 05/08/2008 22:42:48 GMT
Rattlesnake Yips! I worry about my pup
she would have tried to eat the damn thing...

James 05/08/2008 20:39:19 GMT
Nothing at all. I went up above the falls a little short of the maintanance road to the tunnel. No luck there so I went below the falls and fished back down to the parking lot. Nothing but a rattlesnake.

ontherise 05/08/2008 20:20:18 GMT
Not even a nibble or a take?
Where abouts did you fish.
I was thinking of breaking out this weekend.
Probably around 6 or 7 in the morning.
when my wife let's me...

James 05/08/2008 20:16:49 GMT
Nothing Thurs.

James 05/06/2008 09:57:52 GMT
Yeah I usually bring my pup too. The best pools are up the road it is worth the hike. As for a lower flow great it is way easier to fish when it is low.

ontherise 05/06/2008 09:29:13 GMT
Went Sunday...Stayed near parking lot.
Flows are down the water seems to have dropped a foot or so.
Not much of a fish trip, had my dog (7months old).
Next time I go I am heading above the bridge,
still have not gone that deep back.
probably missing the best spots their...
I wish I could go Thursday,
good luck and let me know how you did.
I threw a few stimulators and some nymphs
but saw and got nothing. CADDIS TIME, MAYFLIES ON the TOP!

James 05/05/2008 22:51:54 GMT
Thurs looks like a day I am going. Maybe I will see you.

ontherise 05/03/2008 14:36:52 GMT
me too...I am trying to get my nephew into the sport (he's 7 yrs old).
Anytime you hit it up Piru let me know I might take off and meet you their
we could have a beer and swap stories. Take care James.

James 05/02/2008 17:51:54 GMT
I like stream fishing better, and typically go to Piru. I do not know any other ponds, Frazier Pack and ski usually gives pretty good info.

ontherise 05/02/2008 15:26:21 GMT
I thought so too, but the sound of your own ponds to fish;
probably in privat...sounds pretty good.

Do you know of any better ponds besides troutdale in Agoura.

James 05/02/2008 14:20:16 GMT
that explains why i do not know. 80 bucks is steep.

ontherise 05/02/2008 09:26:34 GMT
Tait Ranch off the 5...One of the Best Stocked ponds in the State.
Trophy trout even Browns. They have Half day and full day rates.
Half day $40 and Full $80. The owner seems cool, Fly fishing only.
2 ponds maybe 3...

James 05/01/2008 19:36:35 GMT
I do not know what trout ponds you are talking about. But I agree this board is pretty slow.

ontherise 05/01/2008 16:49:57 GMT
Post about fishing and you get very little response
if any...talk about using dildos on trout or racism etc. and the board lights up.
this site sucks...any fishermen or just kids with nothing better to do.

ontherise 04/28/2008 17:01:30 GMT
has anybody been to the trout ponds located in Frazier Park?
Want to take my nephew for some fishing...
Any input? I know they have one pond open to the public
and a few more private ponds.

ontherise 04/21/2008 07:40:16 GMT
thanks for the post, a couple of weeks ago i was their and
spotted two bows in the moss but your right almost impossible to dead drift
or drag on the bottom. Thanks for the fliy choices, I will try the ants or beetles might work well.

Jesus_Sanchez 04/20/2008 23:05:59 GMT
well, look how easy it was for me to copy your name. How do you know the "fly guys" post isnt some dick kid who is just trying to start trouble by using someone elses post name. By looking down the boarde, its obvious that somone is messing with this forum. For Jesus_ Sanches, i copied your name to show you that its so easy. I think i happen to know the guy with the red truck your talking about. He was more than willing to help me out with flies and even gave me some to try. Besides that, i did fish piru. It was unbelievably mossy, and it made nymphing practically impossible. They stocked it this week, but as you know, a lot of bait fishermen keep everything, so fish were scarce. I managed to land two. They hit a parachute ant. I had two LDR and that was it for the day. At least i got some dry fly action.

ontherise 04/20/2008 21:52:42 GMT
back to fishing...
Did anyone hit Piru his weekend?
Going to white mountains in AZ this week.
Should be good Apache trout, bows, brook, brown.
I will post on Kern site.

Hope to hear from someone who went this weekend.

asdf 04/20/2008 08:13:17 GMT
Ilyon - the lower does not have this much alegie. the spot that has alot of alegie is about 100yrds below the bridge. use to be a good spot now theres just too much alege

kerplaaa 04/20/2008 08:11:10 GMT
Jesus_Sanchez - no need to start a fight over this even if fly guy has made a mistake. i can see why he is fed up bet there is no need to racial steryotypes fly guy. jesus you should let it go.

fly guy 04/20/2008 01:28:17 GMT
well, i just go from what i see.Im not racist, but at piru creek, the majority of people i see trashing, destroying, and raping this fishery are mexicans. If there not mexican, there old washed up rednecks.Im just sick of it. Im not saying you do it because your mexican. If you have been there over summer, you will know what im talking about.By the way, when did we meet at piru creek.

pancho 04/19/2008 22:44:26 GMT
If you make fish tacos with your family, while you fish!you can keep more fish.

Jesus_Sanchez 04/19/2008 14:02:11 GMT
I am an avid fly fisherman to the southern california waters. I am also a Mexican American. I always pay close attention to the regulations of any body of water. It is not only rude, but ignorant, that you would assume all mexicans are out to destroy our fisheries, fly guy. And by the way, I doubt this is the same fly guy from the kern river forum. In fact, I think I remember seeing you on Piru creek before. When I see you again in your red truck, I'm going to bring this up face to face.

Ilyon 04/19/2008 08:53:49 GMT
I was fishing near Frenchman's Flat yesterday (and had to hike an extra 1.5 miles past the movie shooting trailers). I was stunned by the overgrowth of algae at Frenchman's flat. Has anybody else noticed this? Is it this bad in the wild section or downstream?

RafT 04/19/2008 05:22:58 GMT
And here i thought we were making some headway in understanding the links between race, class, and stream conservation; a topic i see discussed (usually via racism) on every SoCal fishing forum I've ever read. What is more pertinent to our local fishing than that?

James 04/19/2008 00:41:44 GMT
Yeah and this really has no business on this post. This is to discuss fishing.

RafT 04/18/2008 23:38:20 GMT
FWIW- I think it has more to do with socio-economic class than it has to do with nationality / race. Conservation / enviromentalism is a luxury of the upper classes :)

fly guy 04/18/2008 21:22:23 GMT
seriously, it really is all the mexicans, and damn rednecks. Is the limit really two fish? if so im going to ream someone for keeping more than two.

kkk 04/17/2008 16:07:26 GMT
i hate mexacans

kerplaaaa 04/16/2008 17:32:00 GMT
i went the other day. its a real hit or miss creek. one day great next day nothing. but still one of my favorite creeks just becase its local. i realy wish fish and game would inforce the 2 fish limit.

RafT 04/15/2008 23:50:18 GMT
Agreed... If I want to eat fish, I'll go to the supermarket... If i want to have fun, enjoy the outdoors, and try to catch some fish, Ill go down to the river. its all about catch and release :)

ontherise 04/15/2008 16:54:17 GMT
It makes me sick too...
They will probably throw them in the freezer and forget about them.
Did you go recently?

kerplaaa 04/15/2008 16:18:07 GMT
the place is getting over fished the stockers are caght within the first 3 days. kind of sad to see people walking out with a stringer of 10 fish.

ontherise 04/15/2008 14:02:11 GMT
any reports on PIRU...

ontherise 04/09/2008 09:30:29 GMT
Thanks for the info...

James 04/09/2008 00:12:56 GMT
Its true the "waterfall" has tons of mostly small fish but it is never a dull moment. I have had luck there especially when the mosquitos are out but it is obviously fished pretty often judging from the garbage people leave.

ontherise 04/08/2008 17:45:49 GMT
POSTED Piru Creek:

Hey James
This was posted on the Kern site...Do you know if this is true.
you know how we like to tell tales.
At first, I dropped right over the hill from the gate, and caught fish. I think this is Frenchman's flat. The following day, we bike a mile or so up the hill to the waterfall. This is where the fish were. We must have watched 30 or more fish trying to fight there way up the waterfall...

ontherise 04/08/2008 00:03:39 GMT
thanks for the tip, I'll try it out...

James 04/07/2008 22:12:56 GMT
It changes small mospuitoes have worked for me at dusk. Other than that mostly just small black nymphs of buggers.

ontherise 04/07/2008 17:07:07 GMT
Caught him on a hares ear (green flashback #12)
Suggestions?

James 04/07/2008 12:46:58 GMT
In my experience it is much better but watch out I saw a bear cub up near the damn last spring. Most of the fish below the catch and release are pretty small, though there are some big ones. What did you catch him on?

ontherise 04/07/2008 09:16:14 GMT
Went to Frenchmans flat Sunday early/mid morning...Caught one little guy.
Tell me is it really that much better up above the bridge towards Pyramid?

asdf 04/06/2008 20:44:04 GMT
ontherise use a dildo the trout love it

ontherise 04/05/2008 22:20:42 GMT
going to Piru Creek,Frenchmans tomorrow...anybody going?
any hot flys? wooly bugger with some colored nymphs below should do it.
tying them a I speak.

iamjibb9 04/04/2008 17:33:48 GMT
how's the fishing been and where are the best spots?

jew boy 04/03/2008 22:01:46 GMT
i like to get the trout and sell them for money and then i go back to work at the bank!

ontherise 04/01/2008 09:24:46 GMT
guilty of taking parking lot. Not as bad as a month ago...
No parking at all, I had to squeeze between two trailers.
Fast and Furious 23.

RafT 03/31/2008 21:08:07 GMT
Just so i know... the film crew doesn't actually get in the way of any fishing, right? Have they locked down any parts of the creek or are they just guilty of taking up the entire parking lot? :) FYI: Im planning on walking up to the Wild Trout Area some day this week.

murfslaw 03/31/2008 17:42:44 GMT
Film crew and CHP were there today

onthrise 03/31/2008 11:07:08 GMT
Thanks for the update Flyguy...Fishing? go figure.
Nothing frustrates me more when you tell someone how good it was
and when you go with them it's no good?

What dry flies were working?

fly guy 03/29/2008 11:46:44 GMT
i actually went monday and tuesday. monday, hiked way up past the beginning of the catch and release. lots of fish on the dry. i returned tuesday with a buddy, because i couldnt believe how good it was. we fished all day without even a bite. im still clueless why there was such a dramatic change.

ontherise 03/28/2008 10:21:11 GMT
anybody gone in the last few days?
fishtales...

ontherise 03/26/2008 09:17:49 GMT
Film crew still their but very few trailers.

RafT 03/25/2008 21:44:01 GMT
Is that pesky film crew still up there?

ontherise 03/25/2008 10:18:29 GMT
Anyone no what stops the noseams or black flies?
Went last weekend caught two small frys, yellow beadhead nymph, and a copper john. I just started going their, the flow looks great it should start getting good.

Any hints on flies that work their?

ontherise 03/25/2008 10:15:11 GMT
Who's the idiot? Can you spell or what asshole, sounds like you like it up the...

curplaaa 03/24/2008 17:50:31 GMT
fishing is for qweers you fags...wowo i caght an animal with a brain the size of a spec of dirt. fishermen should all get raped in the ass.

fly guy 03/24/2008 00:16:51 GMT
thank you so much.

JohnT 03/21/2008 16:49:40 GMT
Lockwood Creek is accessed in Lockwood Valley, about 10 miles southwest of Frazier Park on Lockwood Valley Road. Call 661-245-3731 first to make sure the entry road is open into the creek.

big black nigger 03/20/2008 22:33:30 GMT
i bent some fish over and riped him in two with my cock.

fly guy 03/20/2008 22:32:55 GMT
hey, iam an avid fly fisherman and was just wondering where lockwood creek was.Whats up with the jackass below me????dildo master?????

dildo master 03/20/2008 22:31:21 GMT
went up to piru creek caght one trout, 12 inches some floatent and wd-40 got it up the anus real nice she squiggled for atleast 30 minutes before my natrual dildo gave up on me.

billy 03/19/2008 16:19:02 GMT
heading up to piru this weekend for a look see. interested in peeking at lockwood. I believe the water is low enough for a sinktip leader and maybe a small black wooly bugger. i find anything small and black works fine up there.

troutpro 03/17/2008 08:56:22 GMT
Jeff- I sighted some in the 14-16 inch range during a non-fishing observation tour last week in upper Lockood tributary. They have gotten bigger in the entire region ever since they moved the OHV trail out of Lockwood Creek. See www.shopoutdoors.com/fishingreport.html for other info about ongoing rehab stuff in the region, a volunteer stream restoration group people can join, meet the locals, etc.

jeff 03/12/2008 01:31:08 GMT
Hey T.P. whats the size of those. Back in the day I'd get some real nice runners[14+] out of the sespe. These fish will restock the streams with natives btw.

Bob 03/11/2008 15:51:12 GMT
I'm thinking about taking a day trip up to Piru Creek and was wondering if I should start upstream or downstream from the bridge (Frenchman's Flat). Could somebody give me some advice. Thanks.

troutpro 03/11/2008 13:57:06 GMT
Fish moving upstream into Lockwood & Seymour Creeks, San Guillermo Creek, other Lockwood tributaries. Its spawning season!

big DADDY ! 03/06/2008 00:00:44 GMT
I WAS AT FRANCHMAN'S FLATS ON 3-4-02,,,, WOW !!! WAS THE WATER UP AND FAST !!!,,, WITH NO BITES AT ALL, BUT IT WAS NICE IN THE CYN,,, THY WERE FILMING A MOVIE ON THE ROAD 2,,,

jack 03/05/2008 20:31:50 GMT
i went to piru creek yesterday all day, it was just not the same tried 20 different flies and not even a hit.

Frank 02/02/2008 18:17:07 GMT
Went up to Piru Creek this morning. First time back since the reopening. Morning was very cold & windy. Water level was high and fast. More water than I've ever seen in the creek. Too deep and fast for wading. Fish not biting at all for me on flies, my buddy had 2 bumps but no catches. Should get better in a month or so when the water level drops a little and the fish get readjusted. Good to see the creek open again though!

Frank 01/10/2008 18:09:32 GMT
Has anyone been up to Piru Creek since the scheduled reopening on Oct. 20th. 07?? I'm looking forward to getting back up there for local fly fishing!

Cameron 10/03/2007 13:59:07 GMT
October 20th is the open date? Is this speculation, or an official word from the UFS? I have seen civilian vehicles driving down Templin Hwy on many occassions as I passed on the 5-N. Perhaps it's open. Let me know.

jeff 06/21/2007 14:54:43 GMT
hey paul, From the bank I remember a regular found a steep bank before the gate and caught the big holdovers with toasting sized marshmallows! Otherwise if you are gonna boat fish then trolling is good. This is all about trout of course. lol For trout you need to find the depth theyre at in the summer. let me know if it some other species youre after.

Paul 06/19/2007 18:24:39 GMT
Can anyone give me some tips on fishing lake piru ? Hot spots or lewers

Scott M. 03/17/2007 16:38:08 GMT
how do you get to the river from the piru side without going through bluepoint?

Scott M. 03/17/2007 16:36:40 GMT
i heard that it could open as late as october 20th due to fire closures.

jake 01/28/2007 17:06:17 GMT
when is the creek going to open again?

Nate 01/15/2007 09:23:38 GMT
I drove up there this morning and the forest is still closed due to the fire. The road is blocked at the boy scout camp.

flyfisherjim13 12/29/2006 13:23:38 GMT
Is Piru Creek at Frenchmans Flat open to the public as of this date?

California Trout Stalker 10/16/2006 09:30:35 GMT
Has anyone been to Middle Piru lately since the fire?

Jim 10/11/2006 13:52:23 GMT
Josh, I haven't heard of anything lately. I was hoping Jason would give us some feedback on his March trip but we haven't heard from him. If you do go, please let us know how it goes.

Josh 10/11/2006 13:46:23 GMT
I'm thinking of going up to Piru on Friday, has anybody been up there recently. It sounds like a great fishing adventure..

jason 03/21/2006 20:26:50 GMT
im going to piru creek tomoro out from lake piru. ive never fished it before. from what u guys say its sounds fun, im hopin for a cool trip. ill let u know what i think of this place asap. thnx for all th info peeps...

jeff 03/05/2006 00:02:47 GMT
yes, the fish are mostly wild down from f flats. it gets better the farther down you go. it looks like pyramid is overflowig but wont be a problem in april.the sespe is mostly cloesd due to steelhead protection but is full of fish

Jim 02/24/2006 08:32:05 GMT
EKG, Glad to help! Check back here before you leave for your trip. I'm hoping my buddy Jeff can add something to this discussion.

EKG 02/23/2006 22:34:40 GMT
Wow you don't know how much you've helped me out on this one. The prospect of fishing for wild trout while backpacking has gotten me super excited and the trip is still a month away LOL

Come April expect a detailed fishing report on either Piru or Sespe, depending on weather conditions and such I can't know which one I will choose at this moment.

Jim 02/23/2006 10:20:32 GMT
BTW, all the fish I saw were wild.

Jim 02/23/2006 10:19:26 GMT
Well, like I said, it's been years. But I definitely hiked upstream from Lake Piru. I remember having to hike a least 3 or 4 miles before I saw any fish. The fish were small but plentiful. I've never come in from the Frenchman's Flat side but even if you don't get any fish, I know it's absolutely beautiful in there and you won't be too dissapointed no matter what happens. My buddy Jeff has a lot more experience on Piru creek and if he's monitoring this forum, maybe he can chime in. Jeff has also fished the Sespe several times and yes it's worth it if you know what you're doing. If you do end up fishing that part of Piru Creek, let us know how it went. It would be good to get a fresh report.

EKG 02/23/2006 10:00:34 GMT
PS I was about to give up on this trip, thanks for giving me a sliver of hope :)

EKG 02/23/2006 09:54:49 GMT
Thanks Jim! There does seem to be a lack of information about SoCals few flyfishing streams. I was going to fish Sespe but that looks sketchy, gonna have to call a forest ranger on that one.

About the hiking, I was actually planning to go backpacking from Frenchman's Flat downstream a few miles then back again after an overnighter. I was wondering if there was the slightest chance in hell I would find fish miles downstream, preferably wild but if not thats fine?

Did you hike upstream or downstream and from where?
Thanks a bunch!

Jim 02/23/2006 07:30:47 GMT
I haven't heard anything EKG. I even did a quick search around the web. It's been many years since I fished Piru Creek but I was never dissapointed. I always remember having to walk in a few miles but at some point the trout were thick. I posted on this before. There is some "magical" barrier in that creek where they start showing up. The fish where pretty small (6 inches or so) but it was fun because there were so many. Remember, the key is to hike in a long distance.

EKG 02/22/2006 22:26:34 GMT
Any updates? I'm planning a trip for April.

Darrell 03/07/2005 16:50:18 GMT
Tried my hand on Piru over this past weekend, with no luck. The water was extremely dirty. I am hoping that it will be better in a few weeks!!

Darrell 02/14/2005 16:23:03 GMT
Scott - take waders for sure. The only time that I have been there - which I have written about in detail - I did not walk down far. I am going again this weekend, and plan on gearing up with the wade lights....

Scott 02/06/2005 17:02:55 GMT
Went up to piru creek today, 2/6/05. weather was kinda chilly with light rain, fishing was bad, only caught 1 little 8 inch and threw him back. i didnt really see and nice deep pools, i was wondering if you guys have waders and walk all the way down. thanks

Darrell 02/03/2005 16:11:55 GMT
Scott, that was silly... I did not mean to put your name in the header.... the message was supposed to be addressed to you. TIGHT LINES!!

Scott 02/03/2005 16:10:35 GMT
Sorry, the fish were about half and half - at least the ones that I had the opporunity to see. I saw nothing but rainbows, although I hear that there may be a few browns in there as well?

Darrell 02/03/2005 16:09:07 GMT
I fished the upper portion, near Frenchman's Flat. I parkes at the bridge, which can be accessed this way - Take the Templin Highway exit. At the end of the ramp, take a left. You will come to a stop sign, take a right. Keep driving as far as you can.

At first, I dropped right over the hill from the gate, and caught fish. I think this is Frenchman's flat. The following day, we bike a mile or so up the hill to the waterfall. This is where the fish were. We must have watched 30 or more fish trying to fight there way up the waterfall...

I will be returning on the weekend of the 18th-20th. For that trip, I am planning on packing downstream a few miles and set up camp.

Scott 02/02/2005 21:23:40 GMT
Darrell, did u fish the upper part by frenchmans flats, or the lower part above piru? Were the fish stocked or wild? also where did you park? Thanks, i have never fished there either but since santa ynez is out of the question i am looking in to making a trip up there.

Jim 01/24/2005 09:23:51 GMT
Thanks Darrell. When I fished Piru many years ago I remember having to hike back in there quite a distance (maybe 4 miles). At some magical point, there were a ton of brave and hungry little trout. It was pretty fun. My buddy and I were using spinners.

Darrell 01/24/2005 08:27:35 GMT
We made the trip, and it was fine. The water was a little dirtier than what I had hoped for, but I was able to catch a couple nice rainbows on nymphs. I witnessed a gentleman pull out 10 in a matter of 30 minutes, albeit with a spinning rod. I will return VERY SOON!!

Darrell 01/18/2005 12:35:21 GMT
I am planning on making the trip to Piru Creek, from San Diego, this coming weekend (1-22-05 - 1-24-05). The last post, from Patrick, is scaring me. I have never fished this stream, and was hoping that someone could give me an update on the conditions. Is it worh my while to make the drive? Tight Lines!!

Patrick 01/12/2005 19:31:17 GMT
Went up today to check on Piru below Pyramid Lake. Completely blown out, running as high and, unfortunately, as muddy as I've eveer seen it. Bugs, young of the year, arroyo toads, whatever, they've all got to be tumbling down the Santa Clara river about now. Noticed the signs (too late) regarding a Department of Water Resources plan to dewater the creek below the dam, ostensibly for the arroyo toads, butalso to pipe water directly to Lake Piru, no doubt to service all the new develpment going into Santa Clarita. Who knows anything about this?

Kerby, I know this is too late for your trip but in the future you can always try WEATHER.COM for the weather. For Piru Creek real-time water flow conditions, try this interesting site:

http://waterdata.usgs.gov/ca/nwis/uv?11109600

That won't give you a forcast of water flow only current and historical conditions. There might be schedule out there somewhere that tells you when they let water out of Lake Pyramid. Does anyone know?

I am inquiring information for both water flow rate and weather conditions for Piru Creek as of Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005? I am planning a fly fishing trip to Piru Creek this Tuesday from Visalia and I am unable to acquire up dated information. Thanks
