I'm using a crayfish with procure crayfish and tri colored spinner and doing nicely. Walked a bit the kayak a bit. Nothing to write home about the bites were steady but most were small. Head up toward Tahoe next month will fish my way there from Modesto Area any hints or tips?
I was using Pond Magic spinnerbait that I had picked up from wal-mart. The rainbow colored and the all white lures seemed to be attracting them. Weather permitting I'll be back out there this saturday morning.
What were you usin? I was there just last weekend and didnt get anything.
Was out at Don Pedro this morning and i was skunked. On my way back home to merced stopped along a few of the ponds that run along the Merced River, between merced falls and Henderson park. Caught three nice large mouth bass. Called it a day after that.
Seems like nobodys reporting anymore. Everybody keep reporting. Hopefully get out on river soon will report back.
Where are they biting? Anyone know of any private or secret spots?
Walked alot for only two fish changed to nightcrawler scent on some plastics tried color and size changes nothing seemed to be right. had more action under the bridge for crappie
Went from Newman up wading for afew miles then went a lot higher delhi. Caught 3 under 2lbs crawfish tube with some procure crawfish scent. Going to McClure
Caught 1lb bass by shaking a tube and a 1.5lb on a spinnerbait slow rolloin it. Both were caught on the outside of a pool by brush. Seem to be pretty active still, hopefully get out there again this week, will report later.
@ basswishes thank you too, for the info.
@ Eric great info bud. I didn't get to go this past Monday like I planned. My son came down w/ a cold so, I had to play superdad. LOL. I have fished the McConnell State Park area w/ a buddy of mine a couple of times. I like that area too. I'll have to check out that El Portal/Oakhurst area, I've heard good things about it from others as well.
I almost never fish in snelling although I know there are some nice fish there. I usually start around delhi in the McConnell State park area and wade a few miles up and down river. The fishing is always great bass bluegill and some nice cats. No trout though. For that I usually cruise up to el portal or some of the creeks around oakhurst and fish camp. Great trout fishing ther and beautiful scenery. But if I can't wade around in the water then I don't want to fish, just my personal preferance.
@ Eric, Thanks for the info. I'll probably start below McSwain and see how it goes. If we limit early or don't do so hot. I'll drive back down to snelling and give it a go for some bass. I'll report back after the trip. Thanks again.
bass are through the areas outlined below but some small addition to your tackle box and you'll be fine. The last few weeks the bass have been out lower than McClure and trout above at least that is what Ive had on line these days. water is so low can walk alot of it in warm waders
The bass fishing is good from snelling all the way down past livingston and delhi, for largemouth that is. There is a pretty good smallmouth population above McClure all the way up nearing yosemite.
I'm going to head out Monday and do some trout fishing near the dam below McSwain. I see a lot of post about bass fishing the Merced River...Thinking about trying it if the trout aren't hitting to much. Do the bass hit/go up the river as far as the Hornitos Bridge? Or would I have better luck fishing lower part of the river in Snelling or ???? Thanks for any advice on this topic. I will report back after my trip.
BAss and some trout rainbows about a pound an half each easy, did some fishing up in Tahoe caught 5 laketrout in about an hour, Fishing are way home kids had a blast even stopped at trout pond at high hill ranch
Bass were hittin grey and green w/red flake tubes in Snelling. Fish it medium/slow with shakes and hops. All of the bass were up by the shore on rock bottoms.
Nothing yesterday but two little ones that were released. Was there for about 4 hours 9 to 1. Maybe it's time to go salmon fishing again.
@BassWishes: Pinecrest is okay right now. Went there just about a week ago on the 13th. Maxed out easily. A couple of 18inchers by the fall and the pool behind it. Too bad the little ones kept getting my line first though. Use nightcrawlers and wax worms (power bait and lures did nothing).

I canoed down the Merced River and caught a lot of bass on spinnerbaits. The spinnerbait I used was a green and orange Strike King. The bass were all small. Tried for something bigger but they just werent biting.
The lake was dead nothing except 2 small panfish. Spent hours out there and nothing still had fun but could have spent more time with the kids. Tried the river as well on Momday and water clarity was an issue.. and again nothing not even a bite where Merced and San Joanquin meet... Thinking about late trip up top pinecrest lake anyone fish up there it been ten years since I was up there,...
still running but some holes changed a bit others went deeper some cover gone others in place paddled around and found only 2 about 14iches could see others but it was mid day floaters and mini deep divers and some spinners. Going to Lake Comanche in the morning going to be from the shore so not expecting much action most likely will play around with the blue gill
Its been good fishin lately, I used zara spooks and rapala floater/divers. Most bass 8 to 15in. Biggest was 2lbs. Had a couple I missed that were bigger. I had best luck in slower moving water were there was brush in it.
Water still high for this time last yr. Went out early morning and could see them near the surface and in the selves nothing to write home about went over to aquaduct and had fun with some strippers all small 9-11 inches on the river went with a fire tail worm with spinner in the front and tail hook set, the only ones we caught. Tried top water but my 10am all action stopped so the aquaduct 4 small strippers on chicken livers
Fished in the afternoon but only caught small bass mostly 8-10in. Used shad colored grubs and 6in worms with curl tails. Lots of bass right on the surface. Tried topwater but didn't have any luck.
