I've fished Seco numerous times during trout season, when you have to do some hiking. There are some NICE rainbows in there. Another access point (during trout season) is through Hunter Ligget near Escondido Campground. I caught a 18" rainbow there on a spinner 2 years ago. Let her go, of course. She had about 4 other friends close to the same size, but they spooked. It is truely a unique environment up there. You can almost imagine seeing the ohlone indians grinding in the mortars and hunting for food. Maybe I just have an overactive imagination. I hope I make it out there this wknd. Unless the steelhead are begging me to stay on the Carmel.

Hey, I just stumbled upon this website. Great info!!! I'm heading out to Seco this wknd hopefully the weather cooperates. I'm going for steelhead but usually catch some nice squaws---or Sacramento Pike, as they call them in the valley. I'm excited about the prospects of catching fish there this wknd---it should be perfect!

If you fish above the waterfall and footbridge located approximately 3.5 miles upstream of from the U.S. Forest Service Ranger Station. You can fish between the last saturday in Apr. through Nov. 15 and have a bag limit of 5. I haven't fished up there yet but I have seen catchable fish.

Underneith the Green Bridge, Right after the rapids, you can catch Squawfish on Rooster Tails, Super Dupers, and other Shiny Spinner Lures. Cast upstream in the rapids, while slowly reeling in, and letting the lure drift with the water too. (Usually a sure catch when a fish is there). Another nice spot is down river from the Green Bridge, upriver of the fish ladder(a legal distance), there's almost a 90 degree bend in the the river with some deep spots along a cliff. I caught some nice size Squawfish there, on spinner lures and also a little floater lure, called a "Fatboy". I also seen two huge steelhead, and one of them followed my spinner, but never bit. Legal fishing, is Open from Dec. 1 through March. 7, bu only on Sat., Sun., Wed., legal holidays and opening and closing days. Only BARBLESS hooks may be used and there's a 0 bag limit. and make sure you're fishing at least 250 feet away from the fish ladder, or you can also get a hefty fine. Look out for private property too.
