Fishing Reports for Kaweah Riverlogin to add a report
I just got back from Lodgepole campground in Sequoia N.P. I was up there for 4 days and I had a chance to fish the upper marble fork of the Kaweah river. I caught a total of 28 goldies, 2 browns, and 3 brookies. They were all pan size, but they are a lot of fun to catch. I only used lures and the best ones were a Panther Martin bumble bee, and a rooster tail zebra spinner. It was a lot of fun and I would recommend going there. It's fun for beginners too. Basically anywhere you see a ankle to waist deep spots, there is definatley a trout there. I'm pretty sure it is all catch and release though, but it is worth it.
I'm gonnna be camping up in Sequoia at Lodgepole campground next week. I know the Kaweah river goes through the camp. Is there any good fishing up there? If not there, is there anywhere up there good to fish?
Went to the marble fork just inside the park last weekend. Caught a few brookies. About 8-10 inches. Fun fishing but no keepers. Then in the afternoon at HUME lake, in Kings Canyon park, I caught 3 nice ones, one was 3 lbs, nice eating. These were all caught on panther martins (brass color).
Haven't fished up there since last year this time. By "drift" I mean use a light weight, that the current moves consistantly, about 16-18 inches below the hook.(where the hook has about a 6 inch lead) and let it drift through the rapids into an eddy. I have about a 90% success rate with this meathod.
I stare at the n.fork bridge and work my way downstream. lots of small mouth bass and rainbows. in spring highwater its difficult, summer and fall is perfect, havn't fished in the winter too much, too cold.
how do u "drift" salman eggs? put it on a hook and just jerk?
Caught 7 pan size trout, in as many hours, just upriver from the slick rock recreation area last weekend. Hoping to do it again this weekend. *TIP* Drifting salmon eggs worked for me all day.
