Don't use bait, and please practice catch and release. ODFW made a mistake allowing catch and kill for sea run cutts, the population just isn't healthy enough. Try fly fishing with a 4 weight rod and a Royal Coachman wet, it's a blast.

WE ARE GOING THE 13TH AUGUST FOR BLUEBACK ON THE ALSEA RIVER IN TIDE WATER. WHAT IS THE BEST RIGING AND BAIT BTO USE?14

alsea river run ? 04/13/2010 03:51:58 GMT
im new to the area and am looking forward to hooking into a stealhead or even a spring ckinook.. when do they run ?

colin 03/26/2010 15:44:15 GMT
Im back home for spring break, but when I last fished on the 18 I was swarmed by fish, I couldnt hook em, I was putting corkies eggs right in front of their nose and they were not budging, I was fishing near clemens park in 2-5 feet of water. fish should be there, but in the north fork, I was hooking many small trout and landed one small steelie about 4 or 6 pounds, keep fishing, stay up high in the river, good luck, many of the fish I have got were right when I was about to give up, so when you think your doen give it 20 or 30 more casts. GOOD LUCK!! oh, try siletz above moonshine, good water w/ deep hiles for them to hold during low waters. but i didnt tell you that.

Josh 03/26/2010 05:14:27 GMT
Whats happening on the Alsea. Is it dead or fish still moving in?

CW 03/24/2010 19:35:25 GMT
Anyone been fishin, or is everyone calling it a suck ass year???

CW 03/08/2010 17:13:34 GMT
Did you only fish around the hatchery? I'm headin out tomorrow, did you notice what anyone was hooking them on?

colin 03/08/2010 06:07:56 GMT
no, i saw many get landed though.

CW 03/08/2010 02:06:34 GMT
Colin, did you do any good over the weekend?

colin 03/05/2010 03:57:41 GMT
good work, im gonna try out the hatchery tomorrow.

CW 03/02/2010 23:04:32 GMT
Got a beautiful 8lb CHROME hen today back-bouncin just below the south fork! Beautiful day to be on the river!

colin 03/01/2010 19:16:56 GMT
went out yesterday and saw one at mills area, 3 at the hatchery and heard of one at clemens, saw a beauty jump a few times, nearly blinded me. should be a perfect day today.

CW 03/01/2010 05:01:06 GMT
Wondering if anyone has been doing any good lately? I haven't gone in a couple of weeks! My buddy got a beauty today by clemens.

colin 02/17/2010 05:51:22 GMT
Today was a perfect day, even though I didnt bring one home it was nice to feen the sun on my skin instead of rain this time. summer steelhead here we come!

Colin 02/17/2010 05:50:15 GMT
Yeah i hooked mine on a #5 blue fox w/ copper blade that is a redish/pink color, not the hot pink, then I tipped him with about 1 1/2 inch of the tail end of a pink worm. I have caught my last fish with this method. The guy next to me hooked into a nice one on what looked like a corkie, but the fish popped off right at his feet. I want to go tomorrow but I got class and work al day, maybe thursday. where u fish cw? good luck!

CW 02/17/2010 05:23:43 GMT
Collin, Sounds pretty damn close to my day. Fished from 9-3, hooked 1 my FIRST cast and lost it after a 2 min fight. I was fishing just above the forks. Then nothing but a 16" cuttthroat the rest of the day! Hooked my back bouncing corkie and a little eggs. Did you hook yours on spinner?

colin 02/17/2010 02:05:44 GMT
fished today and hooked one at clemens then lost it, fished from 9 till 4 and nothing, got the hit on my second cast of the day, wish he would of hung on a little longer. anyone else fish?

Ethan 02/16/2010 03:02:52 GMT
My dad & I fished the Alsea today from Campbell to Salmonberry. We got 1, about 10# on silver spinners. Talked to a lot of bank fisherman, and boats, and didn't hear of another caught. There sure were a lot of cars parked near the hatchery.

colin 02/14/2010 00:03:31 GMT
fished alsea, fished clemens and near 3 rivers, nothing, heard of fish at the hatchery, but it is a zoo near there and that shit sucks, I would say siletz has the better conditions and topography, good luck, hook a big one!!. spinners, spinners, spinners, be patient and you will be rewarded. try to work the areas above a strong run.

CW 02/13/2010 22:00:11 GMT
I have only fished the siletz a couple of times, but from what I hear it fishes well between 5.5 and 6.5 from moonshine up...

casey w 02/13/2010 06:35:13 GMT
headed to the siletz tommorrow. Is a 6.5 ft water level too high?

colin 02/13/2010 03:24:35 GMT
thanks, my friend knows some on with some property near the 3 rivers area, so i think we are gonna try that first then go back up the river. thanks for the advice.

CW 02/13/2010 03:04:44 GMT
Well according to the river level forcast it's supposed to be on the drop tomorrow.. If that stays trus fishing "should" be good throughout the system. I myself would probably start out at the hatchery, if to many people probably head to clemens, from there just keep working my way down the river... Should be a good day though! Wish I could be out there.. Good Luck!

colin 02/13/2010 02:58:59 GMT
I didnt end up goin, but i am goin to go tomorrow, where should i go?

CW 02/12/2010 17:49:41 GMT
If the water is still on the way up and has color, fishing is HARD! In raising water it is usually hard to get steelhead to bite. I would try using a little bigger baits, and find holes along the edge of the bank where the water is a little slower, they seem to hold along the edges when the water is higher. I would also probably stay on the N. Fork cause the water is lower up there. Good Luck, let us know how it goes!

colin 02/12/2010 05:42:35 GMT
goin tomorrow any advice on where and what to use?

CW 02/11/2010 01:44:47 GMT
I would use 10-12 lb line and leader.. I have only been steelheading for 5 yrs or so, so i'm pretty new also.. I have learned they can be VERY picky! I have caught them on just about everything, I like back bouncin the best. I have caught most of my fish this way. The only adce I can really give is to give it a little jerk when your corkie stops in the water, almost like you're hung up! Most of the time you won't feel a steelhead bite, they just stop it and hold it.. It's not like a trout bite at all, that was the hardest thing for me to overcome... Any pinkish color corkie and yarn seem to be the key also... Well hope this helps you a little... Good luck!!

Colin 02/10/2010 18:44:41 GMT
nice, too bad they got away, what main line/leader were you using? I have had no success using anything but a spinner, yet i do use a spinner way more then anything else. I am pretty new to steelheading, I have trout fished and surf fished my whole life, any suggestions for a beginner drift fisherman? thanks.

CW 02/10/2010 04:17:32 GMT
Hooked 1 at mill creek (was a beauty), and 1 just below campbell boat launch (never saw it). Both he hooked back-bouncin corkie and eggs... My only advice is littlest presentations as possible seems to be the key!

colin 02/10/2010 01:12:14 GMT
where u fish and what did he hook em on?

CW 02/10/2010 00:39:33 GMT
Spent five hours on the river, I didn't do any good, my buddy LOST 2 though... Talked to 4 boats and none of them had done any good! The water looked beautiful! Good Luck Colin!

colin 02/10/2010 00:01:22 GMT
cw~ how did you do? im trying to go thursday mornin..

CW 02/08/2010 18:23:12 GMT
Headin out to the Alsea tomorrow, wonderin if anyone did any good over the weekend?

colin 02/05/2010 17:56:14 GMT
I have always uses mono line, I put some 15 lb spider braided and it is great. I can cast smaller lures, with heavier line and not have to worry about breaking off. but I also have my other spool w/ 10lb mono on it, so i might switch it up this weekend and see if there is a noticeable difference with catch rates. I use the moss green spider line, which seems invisible under and above water, but i am no fish so what do i know. Thanks for the info chris, good luck.

chris 02/05/2010 04:00:29 GMT
There is no regulation saying you must use a leader. The leader regulation is in regard to hook size (not how big the hook is, but how big the gap between the point and the shank is). So to answer your question, straight-lining is legal.

Braided line also floats, so it is not the best to use for spinner fishing. Just standard monofilament is best for spinners because it lets the spinner get down.

CW 02/04/2010 23:26:46 GMT
I'm not sure what the regs say about using braided for your leader, I used braided line while fishing for chinook in the ocean.. Probably not a big deal i would imagine... Not sure though!

colin 02/03/2010 01:26:43 GMT
I was told that you have to use a leader when fishing in Oregon. I got my fish on 15lb braided on swivel then put on the Lure... anyone know.

CW 02/02/2010 23:24:38 GMT
Fished the alsea today from 9-1. Saw a few caught, I landed a beautiful 8-10 pound native hen. I tried using just about evertything, I caught her back-boucing a little corkie and yarn.

colin 02/02/2010 18:36:49 GMT
I fished above moonshine @ the bridge, I got em on a pink #5 Blue fox tipped w/ 1 1/2 inch end of a pink worm. i threw a bunch of stuff in that hole, then i sat back scratched my head, and was about to turn back then I put on the set up i mentioned above and first cast the beauty hit it hard and was landed with in 5 min. I was thinking of going to alsea on wens.

CW 02/01/2010 05:32:23 GMT
What did you catch it on? Were you fishing at moonshine? I'm fishing tuesday, just not sure if I should go Alsea or Siletz..

colin 02/01/2010 03:39:09 GMT
got a 10lb @ siletz. fished all day and got em when i was about to pack up and walk in.

CW 02/01/2010 02:43:34 GMT
Anyone been doing any good lately?

colin 01/28/2010 21:30:27 GMT
I think I will be doing some camping and of course fishing out there this weekend if weather, homework, money and a fishing partner all work out i am there.

colin 01/28/2010 18:24:38 GMT
yeah it is open.

CW 01/26/2010 01:57:12 GMT
Do you know if moonshine park is open during the week??? This is where I'm thinking about going in the morning!

colin 01/25/2010 16:40:13 GMT
I would recommend going on the weekends because the upper river is closed during the week for logging, Im not sure on the rules though, I would talk with the people @ fishermens corner in Philomath or someone at a BI Mart. The siletz is a beautiful river and has less fishermen, lager holes, big boulders, and beautiful scenery. I saw a lot of people fishing w/ spinners/spoons or bobber and jig set up. Good luck and get some dinner!!

CW 01/25/2010 04:09:37 GMT
Awesome job colin, sounds like a beauty... I've never really fished the siletz, but I'm thinking about heading there on tuesday, any sugestions on where to go? The alsea really seems like it is all about being in the right place at the right time.. I haven't caught anything my last few trips.. Well Good Luck Everyone!

colin 01/25/2010 03:04:55 GMT
I fished Siletz on friday evening and saturday, I hooked a nice 17lb steelie on a #3 BUDS with 15lb moss green braided line and a 6foot 6 in ugly stick ultra light, the fish broke off one treble and bent the other, a great fight and first fish of 2010, As for the Alsea goes, I have also had no luck and tried everything, but the more i read about steelheading I have learned that one must master one technique and then go to others, for me i am very confident in spinner fishing, so i use that first and then go from there. The alsea gets a lot of fishermen on the river every day, I would suggest trying holes that are not hit as much, good luck and keep fishing, not fishing wont catch a fish.

mark  01/24/2010 00:30:22 GMT
I fished the alsea all day today, from north fork to blackberry, and got skunked. I tried sandshrimp, jigs, and spinners. Any advice?

CW 01/22/2010 05:40:34 GMT
I use Blue Fox #5 and Panther Martins #15... Let us know how the siletz is!! I'm headed to the Alsea in the mornin!! Good Luck!

colin 01/21/2010 20:09:05 GMT
I was using a little cleo and buds #4 does size matter that during winter runs>>?

colin 01/21/2010 20:08:06 GMT
nice, did the same today from 6:30AM -11AM, saw one caught on bobber and jig, heading to the siletz this weekend to camp and hopefully bring home a few nice ones. cheers.

CW 01/21/2010 03:28:21 GMT
I threw everything at em.. I caught her on a little pink jig... I got 2 last week on spinners, and one the week before back-bouncing corkie and eggs.. I guess it's all about hitting them in the face with something!!! Good Luck!

colin 01/20/2010 21:59:11 GMT
what did you hook em on CW?

CW 01/20/2010 05:34:26 GMT
Fished today, water was beautiful.. Saw many caught, and I got a nice 8 pound hen.. Seems to be more fishi comin in. Go Get'em!

colin 01/20/2010 02:19:50 GMT
water is high, I have seen many fish in the hatchery, im gonna wait until the water is low or for a day with no rain until i fish again, I hit the elks on saturday and hooked to small trout, river looks nice.

CW 01/18/2010 05:19:44 GMT
Fished for about 5 hours today, The water was a little high but looked good. NO FISH ANYWHERE! Only heard of 2 fish caught all day. Not sure what's going on, all you can do is give'er hell though.. Good luck!

kevin 01/18/2010 02:54:12 GMT
Elected to watch the playoffs today instead of beating my butt in high water LOL. Saw a few boats comming back from the Alsea. This weekend looks good.

C.Fast 01/17/2010 22:55:32 GMT
Wondering if anyone fished today? Thinking about heading over tomorrow. Water looks high though?!?

CW 01/13/2010 21:19:38 GMT
I usually start at the hatchery also (depending on how many people are there), this is usually a good bet to hook into something. I went all day yesterday, water was on the rise, hooked and lost 1 on a spinner. Only saw 2 fish caught all day. Pretty slow! Should pick up on the drop.

colin 01/13/2010 18:41:04 GMT
going out in the morning tomorrow, any advice on where to go? I usually hit the hatchery then work down.

C.Fast 01/11/2010 18:57:29 GMT
Fished yesterday. The water was in great shape. Hooked and lost one. But saw several caught. Was a great day on the river

CW 01/11/2010 17:07:20 GMT
Anyone do any good this weekend? I'm heading down tomorrow...

CW 01/06/2010 04:53:26 GMT
Spent 6 hrs on the river today, lost a beauty at the bank... Saw 6 fish caught.. Hopefully should be getting HOT soon!!

colin 01/06/2010 03:22:58 GMT

J. Hawkins 01/04/2010 21:32:11 GMT
Anyone get the chance to fish Sunday? Was out Saturday and saw signs of fish getting caught at the hatchery no luck though.

Chris 12/28/2009 03:06:57 GMT
one fish off five rivers in 1 hour time...2 miles from the bridge over the Alsea....talked to a few people at Bauer and there were 6 hooked yesterday, 2 landed.....people at mill creek reported slow fishing...rain coming

Randy 12/28/2009 02:59:01 GMT
Hellion and the rock crusher can both be a little tricky for rock crusher stay to the right do not go around to the left. When entering the main slot stay in the center and when be you start to drop over the edge you should pull in your ors and you should should be fine. Hellions has a flat rock just as you enter the drop favor the left side but not to much there are rocks on both sides that will spin you around point the nose of the boat to the brush at the bottom so you can pull away and not get pushed into the brush.

kevin 12/28/2009 02:23:49 GMT
Hey guys, came off the alsea today and had no luck. good day to be out though. thinking about heading down low on the river. for a rookie, is Hellion canyon or rock crusher to tuff??

ricky bob 12/27/2009 18:31:19 GMT
i guess thats what i need. off to the store i go, what color paint? or that a secret, i guess there is no secrets here if you can ask things like what river mile you where on. might as well ask what rock, hell just borrow my rod while your at it.

chris 12/27/2009 06:04:34 GMT
no just a painted 2x4 and blufox#5

ricky bob 12/27/2009 05:05:39 GMT
did you use one of those big spin-n-glo's i hear they work great

chris 12/25/2009 03:53:55 GMT
Clemens Park, the park after the hatchery. Also the first hatchery count for the year is 53. Not too bad.

Brandon 12/25/2009 00:25:12 GMT
Hey Chris, what part (mile marker or park) did you fish by....?

chris  12/25/2009 00:05:03 GMT
The river was fishing well today, good color and there are fish all over.

Brandon 12/19/2009 01:03:57 GMT
Fishing was good today....seems recent rain didnt bring much fish up....next big rain should be good and bring more up....for now not much to fish for, only saw 2 fish come out of river all day

Chris 12/19/2009 00:18:39 GMT
What is the weather supposed to do the next week?
rain will help the fishing after it drops right?

chris 12/18/2009 23:42:46 GMT
River was in great shape today, water temp was 45.5 F. The pen at the hatchery had fish in it. I brought one 5# buck home.

Brandon 12/17/2009 01:34:32 GMT
Fished near the hatchery today from 12 to 2 30....water level is high, and water is dirty and moving quick...run should be soon...no fish seen all day tho, the trap seems to not be active yet, i heard they are not activating trap until water drops....river looks good tho

Chris 12/12/2009 22:26:40 GMT
Hows the water looking? Fish in the system in numbers yet?

chris 12/05/2009 00:25:38 GMT
3 more today. stopped at the hathcary and there were 3 fish in the pen.

Chris 12/03/2009 19:21:23 GMT
Thanks for the info, but these names mean nothing to me...are they marked areas along the river(ie. campgrounds), or just local names for holes?

chris 12/02/2009 04:57:50 GMT
Bank fishing is good.I would start at Five Rivers or blackberry. Also Bauer is a good spot.

Chris 12/02/2009 02:55:01 GMT
No boat, how productive would a bank monkey be on the Alsea?

chris 12/02/2009 01:52:28 GMT
I fished the lower Alsea today. The boat was 11 for 13 - 3 of the 11 were coho and the rest were all native steelees, some of them were in the 10-12# range. The boat ahead of us did have a hatchery fish.

Chris 12/01/2009 02:25:46 GMT
J-
The clearwater has a huge run this year (500,000+)
over granite...A lot of b's in the system destined for the S.Fork and upper clearwater. Spring will be awesome fishing on the S. Fork...Hopefully this run was not a fluke.

jeff 12/01/2009 02:12:55 GMT
hey chris, loved to hear bout the clearwater being inundated lol, whats that look like nowadays. i live in hawaii now but try to get to the deschutes every year

Chris 12/01/2009 01:49:47 GMT
C-when is the best time to fish these rivers?
I assume they move at high tide....How far up the b. creek
system do these fish go, it looks like a small creek that peters out after a mile or so...?

Chris 11/30/2009 18:41:35 GMT
Thanks again chris...tight lines

chris 11/30/2009 18:01:07 GMT
I run 12# clerblue Strin main and 10# seagar florocarbon leader. Any thing pink or shrimp color.Samon closed on the 30th november.

Chris 11/30/2009 04:19:51 GMT
What is typical gear for the coastal streams?
I generally run 12# with the same leader for over here including the s. fork of the clerwater which gets inundated with b-run stellies (15-20#). But, I imagine I will need
to upgrade to 20# mainline? I usually fish bobber jig combo with dropppers, or drift an egg pattern....I assume the fish fresh from the ocean are fairly aggressive and take almost anything? spoons, spinners, any coho in any of those rivers in that generally area?

Chris 11/30/2009 04:15:39 GMT
Thanks chris

chris 11/29/2009 02:20:51 GMT
There are fish in Big Creek. I saw about six moving just after high tide today. So there should be fish in the Alsea here and there, too.

Chris 11/28/2009 23:03:25 GMT
What does christmas time shaping up to be like?
I'm from Idaho and want to hook up with some chromers?
Alseas? Anything good on the yachats? Tenmile? Big creek?
HELP PLEASE!

Chris 03/08/2009 16:19:41 GMT
Alsea is in good shape. Fish are in good numbers for probably the next week and then it will be time to switch to the Siletz.

adam 03/06/2009 13:41:09 GMT
I decided on the Alsea for Saturday. I think the Siletz would be good also, but its a little further drive for me.

fishONgirl 03/05/2009 18:22:29 GMT
Hey Adam I was wondering where to go this weekend for a better chanse Alsea or Siletz, its my first time fishing near the coast and I just want to up my odds of catching anything would help. Thanks

Adam 03/04/2009 08:27:33 GMT
I have been looking for a blog site on the Alsea for a few years and never found anything relavent. I am going to for the first time this season on Saturday, its usually pretty good this time of year...Keep up the good work and I will do my best to contribute.

chris 02/27/2009 08:38:45 GMT
that is not so bad considering only 6-8 people were really fishing.

jeremy 02/26/2009 17:48:14 GMT
to everyone who fishes the alsea, 6 fish out of 40 people on the north fork is not hot! You should be getting 6 to 10 fish hook ups per day.

jeremy 02/26/2009 17:45:55 GMT
time to hatch more fish the run sucked this year!

Teamwwc15 02/23/2009 17:57:56 GMT
it stands for willamette wakeboarding crew. haha and fishing was dead so i didnt report. Its going to be good right now tough with this rain...

Oben 02/23/2009 15:50:53 GMT
Went yesterday from near the hatchery on down about 15 miles trying different holes with no luck, didn't see any either. not too many fish? It was my first time on this river so I have no idea.

Rod 02/23/2009 11:52:39 GMT
THANKS Bobbie, I tried your spinner flote combo and I caught my biggest fish 11# hen

Daren 02/21/2009 21:18:39 GMT
thanks for letting everyone know Teamwwc15. "WWC" seriously?

Teamwwc15 02/13/2009 18:17:55 GMT
Going fishing on the Alsea tomorrow near scott creek, ill let everyone know how it was... This rain should shock the steelhead to make a run up river.

Special K 02/08/2009 20:31:15 GMT
Hot for the last 3 days for everyone but me.

bobbie 02/03/2009 21:20:06 GMT
stop throwing the painted 2x4's in the river. we and the fish know who you are..... try a spinner under a float

Brandon 01/24/2009 15:31:09 GMT
Anybody know anything about the mid to late febuary salmon run over at the siletz....?

rodger 01/21/2009 22:37:56 GMT
record low numbers on the river. just one of those years

Special K 01/17/2009 11:26:59 GMT
Four of us went out on the 16th. 1 two pound native. Hatchery manager says it is very slow.

made my virgin trip to the alsea on 12/31 and the combat by the hatchery scared me off. river was about 7' and looked pretty good, saw one hangin' that was it. thinkin about going tomorrow morning before the river goes back up...any help out there? how is plunkin' at the wayside?

Brandon 12/28/2008 15:39:05 GMT
The river was pretty much unfishable today from the bank....water level is very high and fast and very dirty....all snow is melting and creating a mudslide flood affect to the river near north folk and beyond hatchery....there seems to be a lot of fish in the river tho...saw a lot of fish that made it back to the hatchery, as well as attempting to fish saw one jump close to shore....seems more of luck to get a catch, as fish seem to be trying to get through the rough fast dirty conditions...river should be cleared after a few days hopefully....

let me know if anyone had any luck today...i did more work cleaning brush and weeds from my lures today than fishing

nick 12/27/2008 07:45:22 GMT
fish are all over the river all the way to the hatchery. hooked one by hatchery

Hooked four on tuesday! Got three to the bank, one small nate another bigger one 30in and a nice 29.6in hatchery buck! They are just starting to enter the north fork. Good luck out there.

Brandon 12/23/2008 10:54:35 GMT
Hey can anyone confirm how far and if the fish have moved up the Alsea....I fished at tidewater near 10-12 mile marker and water level was too high and hard to fish from bank....its amazing to me how Chris stated that the fish can move up to hatchery....can anyone confirm how far up the fish have been seen...I am a avid Flyfishermen that enjoys narrow river streams....

GARY 12/22/2008 19:32:51 GMT
Picked one up yesterday drifting a bright corky. Hit it like a train. Seems to be more fish everyday, just need the levels to even out. Good luck

Chris 12/21/2008 14:29:22 GMT
On the bottom is your best bet. With the water temp in the mid to upper 30s the fish are not going to move to pick up a jig, you are going to have to hit them on the nose to open up. Short leader 12" to 15" max. Also fish are showing up at the hatchery so I would start at Clemens Park just below the NF hatchery, fish tend to hangout in that stretch of river. If you are into combat fishing, the meat hole at the hatchery is a place where I have seen hundreds of fish taken over the years I've fished the Alsea.

WHAT TEKNIQUE WORKS BEST ON ALSEA FROM BANK BOBBER OR BOTTOM DRIFT

Chris 12/20/2008 16:48:15 GMT
Most people driftfish the Alsea (that does not mean fishing from a boat). This time of year, start lower in the river system, for example Five Rivers and down.

MARTY 12/20/2008 11:50:42 GMT
ANY BODY DOING ANY GOOD ON ALSEA YET WHATS THE BEST WAY TO FISH FROM BANK AND WHERE

Any news on fish or water levels comin in on the Alsea after all this extreme rain and snow.....

robbob 12/06/2008 09:00:17 GMT
Sorry to take so long to answer it was steelhead. Very low to fish now. I may take a walk into drift creek this week I think they could be in small amounts. We need some rain.

daniel 12/03/2008 17:30:59 GMT
new to the area, wondering about a good drift i could take on my driftboat. and any tips would be great

EZeggman 12/01/2008 17:38:34 GMT
robbob...Is that still king's, or are you getting early stealhead already? (Oregon Alsea)

robbob 11/28/2008 07:09:54 GMT
Drifting eggs at below rock crusher hole produced. Set bait about 3-4 ft below bobber. Cast upstream from 10 oclock drift to about 3 oclock position and you will bring home the fish. Took a long time but I got one fish 7-8lbs.

kyle 11/16/2008 02:41:25 GMT
i have had luck everytime i have been this year so dont believe the hype about it being terrible because there is fish in the river just make sure ther conditions are fair otherwise you wont touch anything from the bank

robbob 11/09/2008 08:54:05 GMT
No fish yet

jet 11/07/2008 19:47:07 GMT

Jim Bob 10/25/2008 10:41:38 GMT
A buddy of mine had a chinook hooked while fishing off the bank. But otherwise I'll we've seen are silvers.

roger 10/06/2008 12:01:45 GMT
Anyone seen any kings yet? Or if they've made any progress up the river yet?

EZeggman 06/04/2008 20:41:44 GMT

fish sniffer 01/19/2008 23:47:56 GMT
I think Chris and "gaffer" need to stop thinking about trying to make themselves feel better about their lack of fishing ability, and concentrate on the real task at hand... trying to catch fish like I do..... every time I go

EZeggman 01/17/2008 16:22:15 GMT
I hit up the NF today and hooked up with a nice 15 lb native buck. Seen quite a few others cought also

chris 01/13/2008 13:59:00 GMT

Brad 12/13/2007 19:45:28 GMT
It's just a jump to the left.
And then a step to the right.
With your hands on your hips.
You bring your knees in tight.
But it's the pelvic thrust
That really drives you insane.
Let's do the time-warp again.

Chris 12/13/2007 19:42:05 GMT
Is this site Oregon or Nevada?!

Arnie 12/13/2007 19:21:59 GMT
Steelhead? In Nevada? Is this some kind of twilight zone or what?

bobbie 12/12/2007 09:25:41 GMT
caught five fish yesterday. tried a new tecnique that i saw up north and it worked well. you float a blue fox spinner under a sliding bobber. i love it. tight lines everyone

Chris 12/12/2007 08:31:33 GMT
Oh, sorry I felt intimidated. I do not spell well.

My friend and I caught three wild steelhead. All were bucks in good shape - chrome bumpers. We were glad to see them - we danced a jig, literally. It was a confidence builder, I must say. (my sweet, beautiful wife typed this one)
-Chris

gaffer 12/11/2007 21:11:42 GMT
I think what he was saying, Is there a true "wilded" ? fish realy left.we can only hope so.see ya on the river soon.

Steelhead Sunny 12/06/2007 07:53:02 GMT
Almost time for the Winter run of steelhead. Anyone see anything or hear anything.

Bob 10/31/2007 11:21:07 GMT
I went last weekend and this is the first good run that i have seen come through, but now the water is starting to get to low

Tim 10/16/2007 17:41:54 GMT
I drove down the Alsea river from 5 rivers all the way to Waldport this morning and counted only 6 boats on the water! It's looking pretty poor right now!

Bob 10/15/2007 11:43:33 GMT
I have fished the Alsea for years, the alsea is very slow right now with no or little action in the rivers. The bay is also slow right now.

Steelhead Sunny 08/17/2007 07:58:27 GMT
The Fall Chinook season should be starting on the Alsea. I hear rumors that some heve been taken in the first 9 miles already. Amyone else hear anything???

Steelhead Sunny 02/26/2007 15:50:54 GMT
North Fork was blown-out and very muddy on Sunday 2/25. Did'nt see any action, most fishers were just geeting wet.

Steelhead Sunny 02/22/2007 07:45:16 GMT
Fished Monday morning, water was rising - hooked two but they both broke my leader. No action the rest of the day - did'nt see anyone else hook anything either.

Steelhead Sunny 02/18/2007 21:06:19 GMT
Fished all day Sat 2/17 on the North Fork, not even a nibble. Saw only one caught. Been very slow this year.

Wild Bill (not clipped yet) 02/12/2007 21:14:31 GMT
fishe on sat 2/10, no fish seen, no fishermen seen.

Buck Hunter 01/20/2005 10:45:06 GMT
Fishing in the Alsea River near the top portion of the river has been extremly slow the first half of January. I have been told that the fish count at the hatchery is 60% below what the count was this time last year.

Donaldo 01/03/2005 01:30:09 GMT
I never made it out to the Alsea, but am researching winter king salmon runs on rivers south of the Alsea.

Donaldo 12/24/2004 10:56:58 GMT
Planning on fishing the Alsea River tidewater section on Tuesday. Anybody know if the salmon are there?
