Fishing Reports for Quilcene Riverlogin to add a report
went to the quil both sat and sun. Wow, there are so few fish.saw one adult in 2 days of fishing. sad sad sad. the only positive was the 5 jack's i caught and landed. they were beautiful fish but man, i was after there parents. were are they??????
Thanks for the update Edgewater. usually the river gets flooded with chum before the silvers show up in good numbers.so i am willing to bet they will be showing up soon.
hey salmon or knot, you guys been fishin at the quil yet? We took a trip to eastern wa and fished the sept 1st opener of the snake. KILLED them.lol.
I think the gauntlet is about 1 mile down from the bridge. You can't miss it- yes, everyone will be fising there and it is a very narrow stretch of river before a rapids. I was there today and was amazed. The Samlmon enhancement group (or whatever they are called) have completely altered the river!!!! It is amazing. They blocked off the river by the calm, pondlike part of the river with huge blocks and then diverted the river to the right. All in one day! They told me they are trying to create more log jams on the new branch so the Salmon have more places to spawn. The old branch is pretty much non-existant before the gauntlet- my only regret is that this section was one of my favorites to fish. Oh well, they are doing what they are doing for the Salmon. Still no fish on the river, but I went down to the mouth to look and yes, they were coming in by the hundreds! They should be in the river by next week. Yes!!!
as to leader lengh i go short. i use a black corky and black yarn. black being a natural color it will float into there mouths before they get spooked. also i have had great success with eggs at time. i fish with light takle on this little river. only becouse i like the fight.lol. a buddy of mine went up there today and kept four outta the meat hole we like to fish. as far as fishing the mouth i didnt think you could keep fish there anymore? maybe i need to check the regs again. happy fishing guys. f.y.i i'll be runnin down there sept 18. got a spot at the motel all booked up. maybe i'll run into you all
Yea, the 12th would probably be perfect- I would take her down to the gauntlet. The fish hole up there before jumping the rapids and so it is easier to drift fish for them there. I went today- probably should not have- there was absolutely no fish in the river. I heard the fish are just starting to enter the mouth though- any day now they will be in the river:) Good luck to you too!
I don't go to the mouth- I have seen some pretty unorthodox fishing methods there and some unsavory characters (in my humble opinion).I also don't go Labor Day Weekend- it gets really crazy on the whole river then.
I pretty much use what you mentioned; 2-3 ft leader, 15 lb. mono and a corky and yarn. My hooks are ones....If any of you fish today could you let me know how it goes? I am thinking of going tomorrow....
I went today again- I hooked 2 but lost them. Those were the only two I saw. Another guy caught two, but they are far and few between right now.
well good luck out there. Sounds like you have not fished this creek much? Iv spent hundreds of hours on this river.lol.The fish come in thick. and the water crystal clear and shallow. you can see all the fish in the water. Fly fishing works great, as does a corky and yarn. Eggs work for the new comer fish but the ones that have been in river for a while get lock jaw. blue foxes and the like are not a productive system in my humble opinion. plus it is a single point barbless hook requirement.any questions feel free to ask
Im going in 2 weeks. This little stream always starts slow than just explodes overnight practically. Its supposed to rain which will help bring em in.
I was just there. I spoke to a guy there who said only a few were in. He had caught some over the last few weeks, but it has been slow. He caught one right after talking to me- but I did not see any fish and did not catch any.
Sure no prob. Labor day weekend would be a madhouse but I am willing to bet by than there will be plenty of fish for everyone. As with every other year im sure there will be a army of gammies there. So just make sure the fish you keep ARE hooked in the mouth. A buddy actually had a warden inspect inside the fishes mouth for any evidence of a hook.lol.
Thanks!Keep me posted OK- I'll do the same.
Anyone know what is going on at the Quilcene? I thnk it opened up on the 16th....
So- anyone? How are the silvers running in the Quilcene?
thanks I will make the journy..
Sorry- that would be a "right" at the bridge.
Sure (BTW- caught another one last night- about a 12 pound hen). I prefer fishing the river by the hatchery. About 2 miles past the ranger station you'll take a left at the bridge (just follow the hatchery sign). I park there and follow the trail under the bridge. I just walk the trail looking for pockets of fish. Most people go down past the farm to the gauntlet (where the river narrow before the rapids) but if you really look the fish are in pockets everywhere. My friend taught me to use black yarn, black corkies and a short leader- the hook floats right into their mouths without them seeing it. Good luck! I wish I could go today too!
Any suggestions on possible hot spots to fish, never been there before, would like to try it.. thanks
Fish are defiitely in! Caught my limit today- I worked hard for it- from 8:30am to 5pm, but it was worth it. The fish are beautiful- pure silver.
