Update: Changes to US 2 at Wallace River Bridge

Project Update - Crews are scheduled to install barrier along eastbound US 2 near Wallace River Bridge on Tuesday and Wednesday, Feb. 8 and 9. To avoid damaging a fiber optic cable in the work area, we will install concrete barrier rather than guardrail along the eastbound lane of US 2. Crews will begin prepping the area on Monday, Feb. 7.

Crews will install the barrier along eastbound US 2 just west of the Wallace River Bridge between Startup and Gold Bar, eliminating access to the gravel parking area on the south side of the highway. Parking will not be allowed on the shoulder of US 2.

This work is part of our efforts to reduce the risk of serious collisions on US 2 between Monroe and Gold Bar. From January 2000 through June 2010 there were 13 collisions at this location, including three injury collisions. Five of the collisions were rear-end collisions and one involved a vehicle leaving the roadway and striking a boulder. Two other collisions involved drivers entering the highway. The barrier and parking restriction will help reduce the risk of run-off-the-road collisions and collisions involving drivers entering or leaving the highway.

We know this is a popular parking area for people fishing on the Wallace River and we appreciate your help in spreading the word about the project. For more information on the US 2 Safety Improvements project, please visit our Web page: www.wsdot.wa.gov/projects/us2/safetyimprovements. You can also contact me or Cathy George, our engineering manager, with questions or concerns. Cathy can be reached at 206-440-4774 or georgeca@wsdot.wa.gov.

Thanks,
Meghan

Just checking but the last time I checked the regulations and emergency updates it was ok to fish that area. Regulations states from 363rd to 200' upstream of the intake. Is there a sign posted?
